The racing world was abuzz with excitement this week when it was announced that the legendary teams of Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) and Andretti Autosport have joined forces for the 2023 IMSA season. This new partnership is sure to bring an unprecedented level of innovation and talent to the track, not just from WTR and Andretti Autosport, but also from the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA).
This partnership, for WTR means a chance to step up their game. With access to Andretti Autosports’ resources and technology, they will be able to take their cars to a higher level of performance. With a combined 50+ years of experience in various classes of professional racing, these two teams bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will undoubtedly improve the quality of competition within the series. As reigning champions in both prototype class endurance racing (WTR) and Andretti who has teams in IndyCar, Formula E, Extreme E, and Australian SuperCar, these teams could prove especially formidable when paired up against other competitors within IMSA\’s sportscar racing classes.
The announcement of this historic partnership between Wayne Taylor Racing and Andretti Autosport has sent waves through the motorsports community, leading many people to speculate on what it might mean for both teams as well as IMSA in general. This comes with big news—a sponsorship deal and an injection of cash coming from Guggenheim Partners estimated at around $200 million. This new injection will no doubt help Andretti Autosport carve out a spot in F1’s unique market, and certainly make them a force to be reckoned with if F1 and their teams want him there.
