The Black Ghost a 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T SE was revealed to be headlining Dana Mecum\'s 36th Original Spring Classic May 12-20, 2023.

The renowned 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T SE—better known as the \”Black Ghost\” in Detroit\’s street racing of the 70s—was revealed to be headlining Dana Mecum\’s 36th Original Spring Classic. This momentous event will take place at Indiana State Fairgrounds located in Indianapolis May 12-20, 2023.

In the early 1970s, a mysterious vehicle hit Detroit\’s streets and began to dominate in local drag races. After each win, it would suddenly vanish for weeks or even months until 1975 when its legendary status had been secured. Then the Black Ghost disappeared yet again – this time for decades! Although many attempted to find it over the years, no one was able to locate this iconic car…until now.

In 2014, Detroit Police Officer and veteran Godfrey Qualls invited his son, Gregory, to his garage and uncovered a black Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T – an iconic classic. They spent the afternoon bonding by cleaning it up and sharing stories of the car\’s mysterious past. Godfrey\’s time was sadly cut short when his prostate cancer returned in 2015 and spread to other parts of his body.

As the end of the year draw near, Godfrey found himself in the hospital fighting for his life. Knowing that he had only days left to live, he asked his son Gregory to bring a special envelope from their home and deliver it to him at the hospital. This was no ordinary envelope: inside were all of the documents pertaining to ownership of \”Black Ghost” – which Godfrey handed down as an inheritance 46 years after taking possession of her.

Auto enthusiasts looking to bid on this car at the upcoming Spring Classic can find all essential details about the bidding process at Mecum.com. Don\’t miss out on your chance to take home a piece of automotive history!
