Aston Martin's latest flagship SUV, the DBX S, combines supercar performance with luxury SUV versatility, featuring a 727PS twin-turbo V8 engine, and lightweight carbon fiber components.

Aston Martin has unveiled the DBX S, a new flagship model that elevates the luxury SUV segment by integrating supercar performance with the practicality and comfort expected from an SUV. Building upon the success of the DBX707, the DBX S introduces enhancements in power, weight reduction, and design, positioning itself as a formidable contender in the high-performance SUV market.

Powertrain and Performance

At the heart of the DBX S lies an upgraded 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, delivering an impressive 727PS (approximately 717 horsepower) and 900Nm of torque. This power increase is achieved through turbo technology derived from the forthcoming Valhalla supercar, including larger compressor wheel diameters and internal improvements. The result is a 0-62mph acceleration time of just 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of 193mph.

The DBX S features a 9-speed ‘wet clutch’ automatic transmission, which replaces the traditional torque converter. This setup allows for variable torque distribution between the front and rear wheels, with the capability to send up to 100% of torque to the rear wheels. The transmission has been further refined to provide more aggressive downshifts in Sport and Sport+ modes, enhancing the driving experience.

Weight Reduction and Handling

Aston Martin has implemented several measures to reduce the DBX S’s weight by up to 47kg compared to the DBX707. One notable feature is the optional carbon fiber roof, which not only lowers the vehicle’s center of gravity but also contributes to improved handling dynamics. The carbon fiber roof, presented in a single weave pattern, is the largest such component ever fitted to an Aston Martin.

The DBX S retains the adaptive triple-chamber air suspension system, combined with a 48-volt electronic anti-roll control system (eARC) and electronic adaptive dampers. This setup allows for variable ride height adjustments and provides a balance between luxurious comfort and dynamic performance, both on and off-road.

Design and Interior

The exterior of the DBX S features a new front grille and a transformed rear design, giving it a distinctive and assertive presence. The interior showcases ‘S’ specific styling, with options for Alcantara and leather upholstery, reflecting Aston Martin’s commitment to luxury and craftsmanship. The cabin offers ample space for five occupants, with class-leading headroom and legroom, as well as a full-length glass panoramic roof that enhances the sense of openness.

Technological amenities include a 10.25-inch center touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree camera system, and customizable ambient lighting with 64 color options. The DBX S also offers a range of optional accessory packages tailored to various lifestyles, such as the Pet package with a portable washer and the Snow package featuring boot warmers.

Conclusion

The Aston Martin DBX S represents a significant advancement in the luxury SUV segment, combining supercar-level performance with the versatility and comfort expected from an SUV. With its enhanced powertrain, weight-saving measures, and refined design, the DBX S sets a new benchmark for what a performance SUV can achieve. This model not only reinforces Aston Martin’s dedication to innovation and excellence but also redefines expectations for luxury SUVs in the modern automotive landscape.
